Show is Gold for Ipswich ABBA Fans

Show is gold for Ipswich ABBA fans
SWEDISH SENSATION: The Ultimate ABBA Show will hit Ipswich Civic Centre on March 6.
MAMMA Mia - ABBA is back.
Fans of the 70s Swedish pop sensation will be given the opportunity to brush the dust off of those platform shoes, short skirts and ridiculously tight white flares when GOLD: The Ultimate ABBA Show hits Ipswich on March 6.
Kathleen Malony, who performs as blonde bombshell Agnetha Fältskog, said The New Arrival Tour would celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the 1975 album, ABBA.
"It's as close as you can get to how ABBA performed in the 70s," she said.
"After the show last year we had people telling us that they felt just like they did when they saw the real band live, which is very flattering.
"There are a lot of die-hard ABBA fans out there and we want to make sure they get the real experience."
The show will feature internationally recognised ABBA performers who have rehearsed singing, talking, dressing and performing exactly like the band for months.
"I've really done my research," Ms Malony said.
"We've watched old videos and have been rehearsing for months.
"People can expect amazing musicians, intricate costumes, live singing and even Swedish accents."
Ms Malony said that the group always made a point of getting out into the audience and chatting to the crowd after each and every show.
"We're always trying to improve and get as close to the original as we can," she said.
"I've been doing this for three years now and this year we will be really taking it to the next level.
"We're excited, I just can't wait to take this on the road."
To book tickets for the show or for more information visit ipswichciviccentre.com.au or phone 3810 6100.

Here's Cheers to the First Queensland Beer Week

If the flashing red neon XXXX sign atop Castlemaine Brewery isn’t proof enough that Queenslanders love their beer, the state is now bracing for its own beer bash with the inaugural Queensland Beer Week from July 16- 22.

The collective ‘clink’ of beer bottles will be heard across Queensland as breweries, bottle shops and iconic pubs team up to showcase the very best of beer culture, while beer-lovers also attempt a world record for the most people brewing at one time.

And the timing couldn’t be more perfect with Queensland’s favourite brew, XXXX Gold recently taking the crown for the nation's most popular beer and flattening the bubbles out of long-time title holder, Victoria Bitter.
Raise your glass and celebrate with the 10 best beer experiences in Queensland.

1. Take a tour with a tipple
Get inside the head, the heart and the history of Queensland’s amber elixir with a tour through the XXXX Ale House in Brisbane’s inner-west. Tours of the 130-year-old icon run daily and visitors can see how the beer is made and taste the final product. www.xxxxbrewerytour.com.au

2. Bavarian beer in the bush
If the clink of a beer stein and the image of an honest Aussie farmer in a good pair of lederhosen appeals, then head west for the world’s most remoteOutback Oktoberfest in Jundah. You won’t go hungry or thirsty with Beer Wenches catering to your every whim, whether it be a big juicy bratwurst or stein of authentic Erdinger beer specially imported from Germany. www.outbackoktoberfest.com.au

3. Get crafty on the coast

You can’t rush a good thing, according to the Gold Coast’s only craft brewery, Burleigh Brewing Company. It takes around a month to perfect a Burleigh brew; the onsite team does absolutely everything by hand, from carefully selecting the malted barley, yeast and hops to bottling the finished product, boxing it up and lovingly placing it in the cold room. Clearly they’re doing something right - their HEF beer was recently judged the Best German Wheat Beer at the World Beer Cup 2012. Wunderbar! www.burleighbrewing.com.au

4. A match made in heaven

It’s an unlikely pairing, but beer and cheese go together like Queen Elizabeth and her corgies. Explore the hinterland town of Mount Tamborine and match the cheese at Witches Chase Cheese with award-winning beer samples from Mount Tamborine Brewery next door. www.mtbeer.com

5. Beers and bull riding

Crack a coldie at the iconic Great Western Hotel in Rockhampton, the home of great steak, beer and rodeos. This 116-year-old pub plays host to major national rodeos and features a huge undercover rodeo arena for 1,000 people that attracts champion riders from near and far.www.greatwesternhotel.com.au

6. BYO (Brew Your Own) beer
Be your own brew master for a day at Brew 4 U in Brisbane - Queensland’s first brew-on-premises microbrewery. Visit the brewery and choose a beer from their list of over 200 different styles. Measure out the ingredients, mix them together and transfer it to the fermenter where your brew will bubble for 2-4 weeks. At the end of the process, take home 50 litres of your very own freshly brewed and bottled beer. www.bru4u.com

7. Archive of ales

Beer-aficionados won’t go thirsty at Archive Beer Boutique in Brisbane’s West End, with more than 400 different bottled beers and 14 draught beers to choose from. Currently on tap is Burleigh HEF, White Rabbit White Ale and Two Birds Sunset Red Ale. But if the reserve selection is more to your taste, for $175 you can try a bottle of Brewdog’s Tactical Nuclear Penguin. With 32 per cent alcohol it’s the world’s strongest beer and should be enjoyed like a fine whisky. www.archivebeerboutique.com.au

8. Sky’s the limit

The tropical climate of North Queensland has always been associated with cold, thirst-quenching beer. Enter Blue Sky Brewery. Situated in the heart of Cairns, the brewery produces 10 preservative-free, full-flavoured beers including lagers, ales and ciders. Enjoy guided tours from Monday to Thursday where you can sample their stable of beers including FNQ Lager, FNQ Gold, Cairns Gold and Blue Sky Pilsner. Blue Sky is also serious about being green with 95 per cent of its spent grain and yeast used for cattle feed. www.blueskybrewery.com.au

9. Something’s a-brewing

One of Australia’s premier boutique breweries, the Townsville Brewing Company has been brewing six regular beers plus various seasonal releases since opening in 2001. Steeped in history, the brewery is housed within the town’s original post office building, flanked by an impressive clock tower. Brewery tours aren’t available but they do offer tutored tastings. www.townsvillebrewery.com.au

10. No bitter aftertaste

Cleverly named beer bistro Bitter Suite is one of New Farm’s trendy new kids on the block and becoming a fast favourite for weekend afternoon drinks. The friendly owners living out their dream offer patrons hearty fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But it’s their grazing menu begging to be washed down with a choice of seven local craft beers on tap, plus 55 (mostly) Australian bottles that’s winning over locals. www.bittersuite.com.au

Top 10 Queensland Experiences to Celebrate Queensland Week

With the Maroons and Blues locked in State of Origin fever, Queensland is preparing for Queensland Week, a celebration of the state’s separation from New South Wales.

On 6 June 1859, Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent authorising Queensland’s independence. This day is now known as Queensland Day. And the day we said goodbye to the Blues.

So while the Queen celebrates her 75th jubilee, Queensland will turn the ripe old age of 153 (she’s looking pretty fine for an old girl) and will celebrate with a week of activities from 2-11 June.

Here at Tourism Queensland we’ve compiled the ultimate Top 10 Queensland experiences that every Aussie should experience before they kick the bucket.

1. Discover the largest natural wonder of the world
The World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef should be experienced by everyone at least once. Dive with turtles and manta rays off Lady Elliot Island, snorkel the spectacular Low Isles coral cay off Port Douglas, take a romantic scenic flight over the iconic Heart Reef, or try a helmet dive at Green Island.

2. Have an ‘Outback Eventure’
Queensland’s outback explodes into a dirt-busting riot of colour, cowboys, horse races and oddly enough, operas, every year in celebration of spring with a calendar full of quirky events. Meet the friendliest of folk from the quaintest towns in the country at the Australian Dunny Derby in Winton, the famous Birdsville Races, or Mt Isa Rodeo - the largest in the southern hemisphere.

3. Go back to surfing’s roots
Pull on your boardies, grab your board and get out with the pros at some of the most famous surf breaks on the planet. Home to the Quiksilver Pro and a few of the world’s best surfers including Joel ‘Parko’ Parkinson and Michael ‘MP’ Peterson, the beaches from Dicky Beach on the Sunshine Coast to the famous break at Snapper Rocks are where Australian surf history all began.

4. Dive with minke whales
For six weeks of the year Queensland offers one of the most life-changing experiences in the country.  During June and July, minke whales come to play in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef and live-aboard vessels head out for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dive and snorkel with these curious and amazing sea creatures.

5. Take the plunge
A family trip to visit the Gold Coast theme parks is a rite of passage for every teenager in this country. A mad few days swapping between the sickening rides at Dreamworld, getting to your saturation limit at Wet’n’Wild, or hanging with the polar bears at Sea World combined with too much fairy floss and too many Dagwood Dogs makes for a perfect weekend! Or if you really want to get the heart started, head to Cairns to the only bungy site in Australia and trial their world-first jump menu.

6. Immerse yourself in Australian history
Discover the historical gems of Outback Queensland – learn about bushrangers, shearers, stockmen and drovers at the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame; or the history of QANTAS at the Qantas Founders Museum. Retrace the steps of Cobb & Co. by travelling on the original mail route between Longreach and Windorah on a fully-ladenstagecoach with Kinnon & Co; or visit the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs.

7. Taste-test true blue Queensland drops
The Bundy bear and the flashing XXXX sign winking out over Brisbane are two of Queensland’s proudest icons. The two labels personify Queensland’s laid-back attitude and larrikin nature and a visit inside the hallowed walls of the distillery and brewery should be included on every imbiber’s list.

8. Go camping on Fraser Island
Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, boasting ancient forests, one of the world’s most beautifully blue freshwater lakes, Lake Mackenzie, and of course, kilometres of undulating sand dunes. Whether you fly down them on a sand board, careen up them in a 4WD, or camp at the base of them, this World Heritage-listed island is a must-visit for all Australians.

9. Climb to record-breaking heights
Brisbane’s Story Bridge not only features in hundreds of images of the beautiful city but it also boasts the achievement of being the only bridge in the world to offer both a climb and an abseil experience. And just down the road you can get even higher with Australia’s tallest external building climb at SkyPoint on the Gold Coast.

10. Sail the 74 islands of the Whitsundays
The destination of choice for weddings, luxury holidays or sailing adventures for people all over the world, the 74 islands that make up the crystal blue Whitsundays are a mecca for sailors. Whether you want to be spoilt on a luxury yacht, hire a bareboat with your mates or sail off into the sunset with your lover there could be no better way to spend a holiday.

And one more for good luck…

11. Be a part of the seventh-straight win* with the third State of Origin match at Suncorp Stadium on July 4.

*Queenslander’s are nothing if not optimistic.

Queensland Hotels Bounce Back

A year ago Queensland was hit a double blow from devastating floods and cyclone Yasi.

Twelve months on and tourism in the sunshine state is bouncing back according to local operators.

Australian Bureau of Statistics results show a consistent growth in tourist numbers indicating a positive future for accommodation providers with an increased occupancy rate and average length of stay.

Much of this success comes from Tourism Queensland’s $12 million Nothing Beats Queensland campaign that was released immediately after the summer’s disasters.

Metro Hotels who have three properties in Queensland, have reported a rise in occupancy rates of up to 10 per cent in Gladstone, 12 per cent Brisbane and Ipswich.

The Metro Hotel on Wickham Terrace Brisbane and the Metro Hotel Ipswich International both suffered as a result of last January’s floods. “Luckily, both of these properties are on high ground so they were not directly damaged by the flood waters,” explains Metro Hotels Chief Operating Officer, George Bedwani.

The Metro Hotel and Apartments Gladstone also suffered because of the floods and cyclone Yasi. “Access to Gladstone from the southern and northern parts of the Queensland was completely cut off for a number of days,” said Mr Bedwani. “Gladstone is a mining hub and these natural disasters put a very large dent in their business and ours.”

According to Mr Bedwani, the future is looking positive for Queensland hotels. ”Queensland and Queenslanders are very resilient and the way everyone has pulled together to things up and running again is simply remarkable,” he said.

Easter Boost for Queensland tourism

QUEENSLAND'S tourism businesses have benefited from an Easter holiday boost it's hoped will be repeated in future school breaks.
Premier Anna Bligh said Queensland's golden beaches and good weather had been a great backdrop for many holidaying in the Sunshine State over the extra-long weekend.

She said bookings showed "a real upturn" in tourism from the Gold Coast to Cairns, with many Queenslanders and interstate tourists taking a trip.

"I think a lot of Australians who were here this Easter had the same (great) experience and I hope that brings them back in September and Christmas and next Easter," she said.

Brisbane, the Darling Downs, Southern Downs and Granite Belt and Capricorn Coast are now recovering with most tourism operations open and affected tourism operations returning to normal as quickly as possible. There are however still some local road closures in some areas. Visit http://131940.qld.gov.au/ for the latest road conditions.

Parts of Central Queensland, Queensland's Outback, Western Downs and the Lockyer Valley continue to be affected and access to these areas is restricted.

Please contact your travel agent, accommodation, attraction or tour provider directly for latest conditions or with concerns about any current or upcoming bookings you may have.

How can you help?
You can help Queensland recover by taking a holiday in Queensland - in the areas that haven't been affected by floodwaters, and in the affected areas once they are up and running again.

If you already have a Queensland holiday booked - don't cancel as most tourism regions and operations are now up and running.

If you don't have a Queensland holiday booked, book one!

Queensland's tourism industry has the welcome mat rolled out ready to receive visitors, so come see us!

People wishing to directly help flood victims can donate to the Queensland Government Flood Assistance Appeal at www.qld.gov.au/floods

What damage will the floods have on the Great Barrier Reef?

• There have been recent media reports concerning possible damage to Great Barrier Reef as a result of floodwaters transferring from the river systems into the oceans around Central Queensland.
• Tourism Queensland is not a scientific expert qualified to speak on the health of the Great Barrier Reef, however our understanding is that the effects of the flood waters on reef systems is currently unknown. However, fresh water runoffs are a natural part of the ecosystem and some plant and marine life actually thrive in these situations.
• The Great Barrier Reef is 2300km along with thousands of reefs, coral cays and islands. The vast majority of these are likely to remain unaffected.
• Currently tourism operations along the Great Barrier Reef including the Southern Great Barrier Reef,Whitsundays, Townsville and Cairns and Tropical North Queensland are operating normally, including dive operators, sailing operators and daytrip operators.
• Anyone concerned about a Great Barrier Reef booking an individual operator, should check with the accommodation provider, tour operator or attraction for the latest conditions.
• Refer to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority for further information.

AFTA rallies behind Queensland tourism

afta CEO, Jayson Westbury is rallying support for tourism to Queensland, sending a clear message to the trade to urge travellers to book a domestic holiday to the State or defer worried holiday-makers from cancelling pre-arranged trips

Speaking to e-Travel Blackboard today, Mr Westbury said the key message was simply, “How can I help?” directing the greater travel industry to get on board with ensuring correct information was relayed to travellers considering visiting popular tourism spots, most of which has been untouched by recent floods.

Mr Westbury said afta has recommended donations to be made to the Premier Fund.

Tickets on Sale Tuesday for Brisbane Test against Springboks

Tri-Nations – now for the real thing

The Wallabies acknowledge they are still a work in progress, New Zealand has focused its preparations on ways to nullify the aerial superiority by South Africa, and the Springboks have to explain some baffling backline selections to convince certain critics that they will successfully defend their Tri-Nations crown.

The Tri-Nations campaign will kick off at Auckland on 10 July with a Test between New Zealand and South Africa.

Australia

After scraping through against Ireland with a rather flattering score line of 22-15 last Saturday, Australian captain Rocky Elsom acknowledged that his team still had much work to do to be competitive in the Tri-Nations competition.

“We just weren’t sharp enough and not on the same page [as New Zealand and South Africa],” he said.

Australia has been viewed by some notable rugby critics as the likely winner of the World Cup in 2011.

Os du Randt, current Springbok scrum doctor, said he was extremely impressed by the performance in the scrums by some of the Australian Super 14 teams.

Players such as Ben Alexander and Benn Robinson buried the myth that the Australians were vulnerable against giant scrumming machines.

They could field a potent backline with game breakers who have the ability to run impressive opponents ragged, he said.

But Australia could not field its first-choice props lately, and lost the second Test against England as a result.

John Eales, the former Australian captain, said the goal of the Wallabies must be to raise the standard of their poor performances.

“The differential between our best and poorer performances is substantial. and great teams show minimal variation,” he said.

Symptomatic of the uncertainty with this team is the goal-kicking standoff. Curiously, right-footed Quade Cooper takes aim from his preferred left side of the field and goofy-footed Matt Giteau lines up from the right side. They seemed to swap around the midfield duty.

“A show of faith in both, you might say. But it could also be viewed as a lack of faith in both,” Eales warned.

New Zealand

The Springboks' dominant lineout and New Zealand's inability to handle the high ball were features of last season's "blackwash" in the Tri-Nations, but there is confidence that those areas have been addressed well, reported the New Zealand Press Association (NZPA).

Forwards coach Steve Hansen, who must again try to outwit world-class lock Victor Matfield, reckoned the lineout had improved several notches on this stage last year.

"We now step up into the big boys' league and I think we can go in there with some confidence, as long as we keep it smart and keep it simple and people do their job," he said.

Winger Cory Jane, a standout figure in New Zealand's hammering of Ireland and twin defeats of Wales, expected another aerial bombardment even though this season's rule interpretations had prompted less kicking in general play.

"I presume they'll keep kicking, we just have to keep working on our counter-attack," Jane told NZPA.

Graham Henry, the All Black coach, made an unexpected manoeuvre at the end of last week by dropping four noted players when unveiling his Tri-Nations squad.

And that is arguably New Zealand’s greatest single mystery, and also its biggest problem. In eight years at the helm, Henry has never once selected the same 22 players for successive Tests. That contributed to New Zealand's defeat in the 2007 World Cup quarterfinal when a lack of backline leaders in the team gifted the France the match.

While Henry likes to keep his players honest, he also feeds inconsistency and insecurity.

South Africa

South Africa played with vigour and intensity in dismantling Italy in East London.

“I am much happier. We got the send-off for the Tri-Nations we needed. We wanted a good workout and we wanted to play much better – and we did both,” coach Peter de Villiers said of his team's 55-11 win over Italy.

What was baffling, though, were the choices of the substitute bench for the internationals at Auckland, Wellington (17 July) and Brisbane (24 July).

South Africa will start with Enrico Januarie at scrumhalf, a man who looked out of sorts in the second Test against Italy. The team flirted with Ruan Pienaar as substitute wing, used Jean de Villiers as wing as well, and announced the inclusion of Francois Hougaard in the Tri-Nations squad.

According to certain critics, De Villiers' reasoning behind the move is to use Hougaard as scrumhalf substitute. Hougaard has not featured for the Bulls at scrumhalf in the past two seasons.

Pienaar represented the Sharks in this position in the final half of the Super 14 season and at times edged Fourie du Preez in terms of excellent form.

Yet, the Bok management persists with Januarie, and is contemplating the move to use Hougaard in a position in which he has not been tried and tested at this level.

Hougaard has been sensational at wing for the Bulls, but scrumhalf? It does not make sense.

Another possible blunder was not to use Francois Steyn’s massive boot as a possible weapon. If Steyn looked rusty against Wales, his form might have been improved by using him in the lesser internationals off the substitute bench against Italy.

Zane Kirchner has struggled to make the step up to the Springboks from Super 14 level.

Despite these reservations, most pundits give the Boks a chance to repeat their Tri-Nations triumph of 2009. The Kiwis may not have the benefit of a psychological advantage playing at home against South Africa.

The Bulls and the Stormers were overwhelmingly successful in New Zealand, and even the Sharks scored two notable victories there.

South Africa’s formidable performances in the lineouts, scrums and at the rucks will send a few shivers down the spine of the All Blacks and the Wallabies.

And there are sufficient superb game-breakers at the back to keep the New Zealand and Australian teams honest come Tri-Nations time.

Brisbane to host Davis Cup tie - Australia versus Japan - 7 to 9 May

Brisbane has been selected as the host city of the Asia Oceania second round Davis Cup by Paribas tie between Australia and Japan to be held at Queensland Tennis Centre’s Pat Rafter Arena from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 May, 2010.

Australia will play Japan in the second-round tie after defeating Chinese Taipei recently in the first-round tie in Melbourne.

As one of the most successful Davis Cup nations, Australia has won the coveted title 28 times and finished runner-up on 19 other occasions. The winning team of the second-round tie will go on to compete in the World Group Play-offs later in the year.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said Brisbane City Council, through Brisbane Marketing’s Major Events program, was delighted to partner with Queensland Events Corporation and Tennis Queensland in staging this event.

“I’m thrilled Brisbane will host the Davis Cup in May,” the Lord Mayor said.

“As Australia’s new world city it is important we present a calendar of major events that attract visitors and provides our residents with an opportunity to see world class events.

“Hosting the Davis Cup will enhance Brisbane’s reputation as a major tennis event destination and is expected to generate several million dollars in direct event expenditure and visitation for the city with an anticipated spectator audience of 12,000 over the three day event.”

The Davis Cup follows the successful staging of the second annual Brisbane International and complements Brisbane’s 2010 major events calendar including the upcoming Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series – Qantas Wallabies v Ireland and the Bundaberg Rum Tri Nations Series – Qantas Wallabies v Springboks in June and July respectively, Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future exhibition in August at the Gallery of Modern Art and the commencement of Australia’s International Summer of Cricket with the 3 mobile Ashes Series - Australia v England in November.

With more than 100 years of tradition behind it, Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the premier team competition in tennis, as well as being the largest annual international team competition in sport. Run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) the Davis Cup is contested between teams of players from competing countries in a knock-out format.

The last Davis Cup to be held in Brisbane was in 2000 at ANZ Stadium where Australia defeated Brazil 5-0.

Metro Hotel Ipswich International gets ‘green’ stamp of approval

Metro Hotel Ipswich International has been awarded Green Star Accreditation in recognition of its commitment to the environment through the implementation of a range of rigorous eco-friendly initiatives.
The Green Star Hotel Rating system was developed by AAA Tourism, the peak Australian tourism body traditionally recognized for assessing accommodation under the STAR accommodation system. ‘Green STAR Accreditation’ was recently developed by AAA Tourism in partnership with Green Globe, an internationally recognised certification and performance improvement program.
To be awarded the Green Star, each property must meet strict guidelines in several key environmental criteria relating to rooms, facilities, grounds and office management, demonstrating that the hotel has shown a genuine commitment to the environment and to reducing their environmental footprint.
After an assessment process that resulted in every aspect of the hotel and its services being scrutinized, Metro Hotel Ipswich International is proud to have been awarded a very healthy eco-score, enabling it to claim Green Star Accreditation.
Hotel General Manager Alex van Kersen said the hotel staff were thrilled to have achieved this goal and were extremely motivated to maintain this high standard of environmental commitment.
“Being located in a Queensland regional city, we are part of a community which relies heavily on the health of the land for our existence,” Mr van Kersen said. “We are therefore conscious of the need for water conservation and recycling of waste materials. The Green Star rating is an assurance to our guests that the choices we now offer are part of a serious commitment to the environment.”
Guests at the hotel are now offered options such as hanging their towels up to be reused; not having their linen changed daily; and encouraged to recycle materials. They will also be asked not to smoke; to turn off lights when possible; and will only be given a newspaper on request.
The hotel itself has complied with a rigorous list of essential criteria, including supplying energy-efficient fixtures, water-saving showerheads, water-saving toilets, paper recycling throughout the facility, biodegradable dishwashing detergent and a large number of other initiatives.

Cricket dream team to play in Ipswich

IT will bring perhaps the biggest line-up of Australian cricket legends that Ipswich has ever seen, but Andy Bichel believes the Australian Cricketers Association’s Masters Regional Tour is all about the community.
Bichel is one of 13 former state and national players who’ll participate in the Ipswich leg of the 7th masters’ tour from October 3-5.
The cavalcade of stars will first take part in a sportsman’s night at the Metro Hotel Ipswich International on October 3, before travelling to the North Ipswich Reserve the following day for a coaching clinic and Twenty20 match versus an Ipswich XI.
According to Laidley-born Bichel who played 19 Tests and 67 One-Day Internationals for Australia the tour is a “shot in the arm for cricket”.
“The community gets a lot more out of it than any sporting team (that visits) these days. The guys are there to make a difference to the communities and promote cricket in regional centres,” he said.
“When was the last time Michael Bevan, Greg Blewett or Greg Matthews played in Ipswich?
“It would be nice to go back and meet some of those people who have supported me for so many years.”
The Twenty20 match could launch the career of a local youngster, with the Ipswich and West Moreton Cricket Association to select two young cricketers aged 15 to 18 in its side.
One will be awarded a scholarship, including $1000 and mentoring from one of the ACA greats.
“It’s not about performing in this match,” Bichel said.
“You look for that natural flair as well.”
The free u6-u16 coaching clinic will run from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Adult entry to the match which begins at noon is $5. Children under 16 enter free. Tickets can be purchased at the ground.
